  1. 1Take the 5 mg vial out of the fridge. Wipe the rubber top with an alcohol swab.
  2. 2Draw 2 mL of bacteriostatic water and add it slowly, letting it run down the inside of the glass. Swirl gently until clear. Never shake.
  3. 3The vial now holds 2.5 mg per mL. Write that and today's date on the label.
  4. 4Take a U-100 insulin syringe and pull 10 units (0.1 mL) from the vial. That is your 250 mcg dose.
  5. 5Swab a spot on the belly two fingers from the navel, pinch the skin, insert at 45–90° and press the plunger slowly. Use a fresh spot each time.
  6. 6Back in the fridge. This vial holds about 20 doses and should be used within roughly 4 weeks.
